The Magic of Matilda

Everyone loves movies. Do you love movies? In case you don’t have a movie to watch, I can give you MANY to watch, but I’m only going to talk about one in particular: Matilda.

The movie Matilda is about a young girl called, of course, Matilda (duh)! Her father, Harry Wormwood, sold cars for unfair prices, while her mother, Zinnia Wormwood, spent all her time playing Bingo. Her brother, Michael Wormwood, went to school, and when he was home, bullied Matilda.

When Matilda was very young, that is 4 years old, she had a thirst for books. This was surprising as both her parents didn’t read and neither did Michael (except for school work). The only books in the house were a few simple cookbooks and telephone books and directories/address books. Magazines were also there, but they didn’t count as books. Matilda looked in the address books and found the nearest library. It took her about 10 minutes to walk there. She began going there every day, discovering new books to read. She finished the children’s books and had soon read books by Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling and many other authors.

But reading wasn’t enough. When she was 6 years old, Matilda longed to go to school, like all the other children her age. Finally, her father sent her to Crunchem Hall Elementary School. The principal was Agatha Trunchbull, a great, big woman, who had done javelin, shot put and hammer throw in the Olympics. All the children in Crunchem Hall Elementary feared her, as did most of the teachers. I mean, I can’t blame them. Miss Trunchbull carried around a riding crop, gave children detention for no absolute reason and had a small and deadly hole-in-the-wall called the Chokey. The Chokey had glass sticking out of the sides of the hole and nails hammered through the door. She put children in there, sometimes more than one child at a time.

Thankfully, Matilda’s class teacher Miss Honey was very much like her name and was a 'honey'! Matilda was relieved. Soon, she and Miss Honey became good friends, and started having tea together at Miss Honey’s house.

Matilda discovered that she had a curious power, where she could use her eyes to lift things. Once, she burst her parents’ T.V. using her newfound power!

Find out what happens in the movie in detail by watching it! I can assure you that you will love it! I did! Read the book, too! It’s just as good! Now, stop reading this article, and watch the movie!
