Manchester United V/S Atletico Madrid

On February 24, the big battle between Atletico de Madrid and Manchester United began at Wanda Metropolitano stadium at 1:30am.


The Manchester United line up consisted of David de Gea in the goal, Harry Maguire and Rafael Varane as center backs, Victor Lindelof as right back, Luke Shaw as left back, Fred and Paul Pogba played as center midfields, while the left winger was Jadon Sancho, and the right winger was Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes took up the position of center attacking midfielder, and the center forward was Cristiano Ronaldo. They were instructed by their manager, Ralf Ragnick.

The Atletico Madrid line up was: Jan Oblak in the goal the, Jose Maria Gimenez, Reinildo Mandava and Stefan Savic as center backs, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Hector Herrera and Marcos Llorente as center midfields, the left wing back was Renan Lodi the right wing back was Sime Vraslijko, while the center forwards Andrea Correa and Joao Felix made the stadium shout. Atletico de Madrid’s manager, Diego Simeone gave his boys a pep talk.

The first half was underway and in the opening minutes Atletico Madrid had most of the possession however, Manchester United were defending well. But, in the 7th minute a cross from the left back Lodi, released the ball in the air and between the 2 Manchester United center backs: Harry Maguire and Rafael Varane. Joao Felix gave a flying header to the back of the net the goalkeeper, and the Manchester United prays prayed that it didn’t go in but it did!

“Goooooaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllll!” The Atletico Madrid fans cheered in joy.

Atletico Madrid had another chance but they were denied. Soon the first half was over. After a fifteen minute break, the players were back on the field. Manchester United star player Cristiano Ronaldo had so many chances but, the Atletico Madrid defence was resilient. Atletico Madrid star play Joao Felix; the goal scorer had many chances as well, but he converted zero. Both teams desperately tried to score goals, but none of them prevailed.

Then, the young substitute Anthony Elanga replaced Jadon Sancho and made a big difference in the 79TH minute. Bruno Fernandes played a beautiful “through ball” to Anthony Elanga. One on one with the goal keeper, Elanga kept his cool unlike any other youngster who would panic, hit the ball hard and miss the shot. Elanga’s focus allowed him to place the ball in the bottom left corner. The goalkeeper Jan Oblak slid and prayed that the ball would not go in but, it did!

“Goooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllll,” the Manchester United fans roared. Manchester United equalized in the 80th minute. The players went to the corner flag and jumped on each other’s backs, celebrating the goal. The last 10 minutes flew by and the extra time of 4 minutes was not enough for either team to score a goal.
